Living in Orlando, we certainly have our share of sunshine. As much as we enjoy it, sometimes that much sun does damage as it pours into our homes. It can fade our furniture and shades, make our house exceedingly hot and create an uncomfortable glare. Installing window film allows you to enjoy the Florida sun without these disadvantages.

Install window film where the greatest amount of sun enters the house, which are the east- and west-facing windows. South-facing windows benefit also, but you’d also have heat reduction during the winter. North-facing windows won’t benefit at all.

Applying window film offers three great advantages:

  1. You save on your cooling bills. Window films can block up to 78 percent of solar energy, which means your house won’t get nearly as hot with films as without. To cool a hot Florida house, your air conditioner is frequently running, but when heat from the burning sun enters as well, the house becomes even hotter and the cooling load greater. By installing window film, you reduce the amount of heat your cooling system needs to handle, and thus extend its life.
  2. The life of your air conditioner is extended. When heat in your house is reduced due to less solar energy entering, your air conditioner doesn’t run as long and your monthly energy bills decrease. A 70 percent reduction of heat is possible in the summer months, which can potentially provide five to 10 percent savings on energy bills.
  3. In-house comfort is increased. Installing window film can significantly reduce glare within the home—up to 80 percent in some cases. Film also reduces UV light, which in turn minimizes fading of furniture and window covers.

With less heat, no glare and knowing your furnishings aren’t being ruined, installing window film is a practical and efficient means to enjoying the summer sun.
