How to Conserve Water in Your Home
Reducing the amount of water you use in your Orlando home can help you lower your bills while also helping the environment. There are several ways that you can conserve water, including the following.
Fix Leaks
Leaks in your home can add up to 10,000 gallons of water wasted per year. Even small leaks can end up leading to significant water waste. Check your plumbing fixtures, including toilets and sinks, for leaks and have them repaired as soon as possible by a professional plumber if you can’t fix them yourself. The sooner you stop these leaks and prevent more from occurring, the more water you’ll be saving.
Use Appliances Wisely
When you run your dishwasher or washing machine, make sure it’s fully loaded. You should end up running these appliances less often when you do it this way, which can save you a considerable amount of water. If you need to do a smaller load of laundry, adjust the load size setting or water level, so you won’t use more water than you need. You can also save water by scraping leftovers into the garbage instead of rinsing off plates and bowls before putting them in the dishwasher.
Don’t Leave Sinks Running
One of the easiest and most effective ways to conserve water is by shutting sinks off while brushing your teeth or doing dishes. Leaving the water running while you do these tasks uses up a lot of water.
Choose Showers Over Baths
Although baths are relaxing, they use up much more water than showers. Take showers instead of baths as often as possible, and limit your shower time to help conserve water even more. You can also save water by using a low flow shower head rather than a regular one.
