When to Prep Your HVAC for Summer
With temperatures already heating up in the Orlando area, this is a good time to focus on summer HVAC prep. Since you’re likely to need your air conditioning during spring as well, you should be taking steps to make sure that your HVAC system is ready to use. Keep the following tips in mind to ensure that you’ll have a cool and comfortable home when it’s hot out.
Put in a New Air Filter
Take out the air filter that’s in your HVAC system, and replace it with a new one. Air filters get clogged up over time as they pick up more and more dust and debris. This can end up making it harder for your air conditioning system to run efficiently, which increases the risk of a breakdown and raises your cooling bills. Having a new filter helps improve your home’s indoor air quality while also lowering your energy use.
Get Rid of Outdoor Debris
Check your outdoor unit to see if there are any weeds or other debris around it that could block air from flowing through it easily. Remove any debris you find, and make sure that your outdoor unit has about two feet of space around it on all sides. If there are any shrubs or bushes growing near your outdoor unit, keep the branches trimmed.
Have Your Ductwork Inspected and Cleaned
The ducts in your home can become filled with dust and pollutants over time. When your air conditioning is on, it spreads these particles throughout your home. Have an HVAC technician check your ducts for any problems that need to be addressed and give it a good cleaning.
Schedule Routine Maintenance
Schedule HVAC maintenance for your air conditioning system to ensure that it’s in good condition for the warmer part of the year. HVAC technicians can clean it, check for problems and lower your risk of needing repairs.
