Groundhog’s Day is coming up, which means we’ll soon find out whether or not we’ll have six more weeks of winter. Even if Punxsutawney Phil doesn’t see his shadow this year, it’s still important to pay attention to your home’s heating needs. Keep the following winter heating tips in mind so your Orlando home can stay warm for the rest of the season.

Schedule HVAC Maintenance

If you went without routine HVAC maintenance before winter started, you’re running a higher risk of facing unexpected heat emergencies. Having maintenance done helps lower the chance of having your furnace break down on you when you need it the most. When you have your HVAC system maintained, you’re also keeping it in good condition, which can help it last for many more winters. Even though spring is just around the corner, you can still have HVAC maintenance done this winter.

Humidify Your Home

Running your furnace or heat pump can make the air in your home too dry, which can lead to skin irritation, sinus problems, and other health issues. Dry homes also tend to have more static electricity, resulting in unpleasant shocks. Keeping your home at a comfortable humidity level helps prevent these problems from occurring. Consider investing in a whole-house humidifier if portable humidifiers aren’t doing enough to raise the humidity levels in your home.

Check Your Insulation

Having a home that is properly insulated helps ensure that it stays comfortably warm all winter long. Insulation helps keep heated air from your furnace or heat pump in your home while also preventing cooler air from getting in through your attic. While winter is still here, check your insulation to make sure you have enough and that it’s in good condition.
