How To Tell If You Have A Toilet Leak
When you have a home to take care of, you will inevitably encounter problems. As a homeowner, it’s good to know the early signs of anything that can be detrimental, especially a toilet leak.
A toilet leak is a problem that needs to be taken care of right away. This way you can catch it before it causes any real water damage or creates an unwanted increase in your water bill.
Here’s a simple test for helping you to figure out if there is a toilet leak:
- Carefully remove the rear toilet tank lid.
- Flush the toilet and then let the tank completely fill-up again.
- Add a few drops of food coloring to the water in the rear tank and replace the lid.
- Wait 30 minutes and look in the toilet bowl, if you see any color in the water, then you definitely have a toilet leak!
If you have a leak, the next step is to figure out where it’s coming from. Sometimes the flapper is simply stuck open or the chain is interfering, so you can begin by adjusting the chain. However, if that does not fix the leak, you may want to contact a professional plumber to inspect the problem further and repair.
