Take Control of Humidity With a Whole House Dehumidifier
A home with high humidity is very uncomfortable. Sleeping becomes difficult and you may have that sticky feeling all day. High humidity can also cause a mildew or musty odors. The solution may be a whole house dehumidifier. Air pulled return ducts has the moisture removed and is filtered before being recirculated through your home through the supply ducts. This system can work independently of the A/C unit for operation on cooler days.
High humidity levels in a home is not only uncomfortable, the formation of mildew can result. Household members that suffer from allergies can have increased symptoms from mildew or bacteria and dust mite growth in the home. Keeping the humidity low will help to control these type of allergens. Condensation on pipes also can occur and in extreme cases of indoor moisture, mold can result.
Additional problems can also occur in your home from a high moisture level. Wood flooring and certain wooden furniture may experience warping over time with an unchecked problem with dampness. Insects thrive in this type of environment and may enter your ductwork. A complete professional cleaning of the ductwork will be necessary to eliminate the infestation.
High indoor humidity does not necessarily indicate that your A/C unit is not working properly. Air conditioners will control the temperature, but not humidity. There are times you may not find it necessary to run your air conditioner for long periods such as spring or fall, but a sticky, damp feeling persists in your home. A whole house humidifier is especially useful to maintain the balance during these times.
Additional power demand to run a dehumidifier does not necessarily result in higher energy expenses. The A/C unit may have decreased demand with reduced moisture in the air. Your thermostat may be able to be set higher with the same level of home comfort. Another benefit is reduced strain on your HVAC system. This can extend the lifespan of system components.
