To Control Moisture In Your Orlando Home, Use This One Key Tip
Excessive moisture in your Florida home can negatively affect its efficiency and, unfortunately, the problem is a common one. The good news is that you can control moisture by utilizing one simple piece of advice: seal your attic.
Moisture is always on the move
If you want to control moisture in your house, you must learn how moisture moves throughout your home.
You might be surprised to learn that greater than 98 percent of all moisture conveyance through your home’s nooks and crannies occurs due to air currents. This is accomplished very quickly as the air uses the easiest possible path, usually through a hole or crack, on its way from a high pressure area to a low pressure one. The speed at which this occurs is one reason why sealing your attic is so important.
Control moisture by sealing your attic
Sealing your attic is a great way to make a huge impact on moisture control. Doing so will put a stop to the amount of air current movement occurring throughout your home. Once you begin to tackle this job, take this easy-to-follow advice:
- Start with the largest holes. If you want to make the biggest impact in the shortest amount of time, begin by sealing the largest problem areas first. This will provide you with an instant positive effect on moisture.
- Take a look at your insulation. If your insulation isn’t clean, this serves as a big indicator that air has been moving through it. Consider increasing the insulation in your attic, basement and crawlspaces as well.
- Check sidewalls and knee walls. This comes into play when a home has a finished attic. Just be sure to check any open cavities located in these two areas for air leaks.
- Be wary of asbestos. If you use vermiculite insulation, have an HVAC professional test it before moving it, because it could contain asbestos.
