Save Money with Water-Efficient Plumbing Fixtures in Your Home
Water is one of our most precious natural resources, yet we waste it far too often. Water-efficient plumbing fixtures can do so much to help conserve water usage. WaterSense, a program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, is a great resource for ways to use our water more efficiently, and the program also gives certifications to new plumbing fixture designs that help increase household water efficiency.
By installing new, water-efficient faucets, you can enjoy the same level of performance as your old faucet while using significantly less water. Before 1992, bathroom faucets used up to seven gallons of water per minute. Nowadays, we have been able to drop that number to just 2.2 gallons per minute.
Old-fashioned toilets use around 3.5 to five gallons of water with every flush. More efficient designs use 1.6 gallons or less per flush. Transitioning to low-flow or dual-flush toilets can make a substantial difference in your household.
Saving water for the environment isn’t the only benefit of water conservation for homeowners. When you save water, you are also saving money. If your plumbing was manufactured prior to 1998, you owe it to yourself and the environment to install water-efficient plumbing.
